Bora
Pronounced gusts of wind from the interior towards the sea. This wind is relatively cold and dry, reaches medium strength and can last for several hours. It cleans the air and, once it has subsided, ensures sunny and clear weather with excellent visibility. The average wind speed is 11 meters per second. The wind often comes on suddenly and unexpectedly. It usually comes from the northeast. Sometimes strong gusts of wind alternate every minute with weak drafts. The waves in the sea move rapidly away from the mainland, their tips breaking and forming white foam. When there are strong gusts of wind, water droplets are often thrown up into the air, which look like "dust on the sea".
Juice
Medium strong wind from the south-west from the sea to the coast. The wind brings rain to the coast. The wind brings rain and humidity and is common in all Croatian coastal regions. It usually blows in spring and autumn. In summer it is felt less often. The wind speed increases slowly and continuously without stopping. Elongated waves are created, which are mostly noiseless and do not form foam. Only when the wind is strong, when the waves are beating the beach, can an impressive background noise be created.
Maestral (Mistral)
This north-westerly wind is typical for summer on the Adriatic. It is usually associated with stable fair weather. In summer it almost always starts around noon (after a period of calm in the morning) and then provides a pleasant breeze that gradually increases and can last until dusk. This wind is particularly common in the Zadar and Korčula area.
Tramontana
Thermal evening wind from the north with stable weather. The name comes from the Italian word for sunset (tramonto). However, it can also happen that it starts after rain or a storm. In this case, it shows a completely different face and can create waves up to 1,5 m high.
