Description
A fascinating, unique experience
One of the highlights of your stay in Greece is a visit to the Meteora monasteries. The Meteors are a group of high, steep rocks that rise 300 meters above the valley. On the peaks of these rocks sit monasteries that have been inhabited by Orthodox monks since the 11th century. Today only 24 of the 6 monasteries are still inhabited.
The drive from your hotel heads south along the coast of the Olympic Riviera. You can admire the imposing Mount Olympus as you drive past farms, fields and plantations. You cross rivers and cross valleys until you pass the state capital Larisa. From there we continue through the vast and fertile Thessalian Plain to the city of Kalambaka, which is surrounded by the Pindos Mountains.
Finally you reach the breathtaking and floating Meteora Monasteries. The gray rocks rise into the sky like huge stalagmites. During your visit, you will have the opportunity to explore two of these monasteries and experience the unique atmosphere up close (please note the dress code).
